ed1Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a medical term that describes the inability to achieve and/or maintain an erect penis useful for sexual intercourse. All men experience difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection at some point in their lives, but ED implies repeated or constant inability to achieve a sufficient erection. Over 20 million men in the U.S. alone are affected by ED. While the majority of these men are over 40, ED can occur at any age.

Achieving a normal erection is a complicated process, requiring interactions between the brain, properly functioning nervous system, adequate circulation to the penis, and testosterone. Erectile dysfunction can occur if some or all of these processes are not functioning properly. Premature ejaculation, infertility, or low sex drive are not the same as erectile dysfunction, though one or more of these conditions may be associated with it.

Erectile dysfunction is not a life threatening condition. However, ED can seriously affect your emotional health and sense of self-worth, or hinder your ability to father a child.

ED does not have to be just another part of getting older or something you have to accept as part of your life.

There are treatment options available. Almost all men of any age can be treated for ED, provided that your doctor says you are physically fit enough for intercourse. Whether to pursue treatment options is up to you and your partner.

The specific cause of ED is unknown. Erectile dysfunction can be a sign of a health condition such as heart disease or poorly maintained diabetes. Treating these problems can reverse ED. General ED may also be treated with the use of oral medications, such as Viagra or Cialis. These are considered safe and can be effective, but only for those who are eligible. For example, men who take heart medications called nitrates are not advised to take some of these oral medications, while others simply don’t respond to them.

Treatment Options at Revita and the Men’s Clinic

The Men’s Clinic is part of the Revita clinic family and assists those patients with erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, or impotence. For those who cannot take oral medications or do not respond to them, there are other options available. We understand that erectile dysfunction affects every man differently. Our physicians can develop a custom treatment for your erectile dysfunction specifically tailored to your needs. These treatments, applied directly to the penis, relax the muscles that surround the blood vessels in the penis. Blood flow is increased; producing an erection within 5 to 20 minutes. The erection may last 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the treatment you need and your personal desires for performance time.

We offer a variety of treatment options including specialized dosages to meet the patient’s needs (combinations of medications below, which can be formulated into Bi-Mix, Tri-Mix, or Quad-Mix). Also, our doctors specialize in wellness programs (bioidentical hormone replacement) to determine any root causes of deficiencies or lack of success. There are treatment options with bioidentical hormones and natural supplements that help as well.

But, our most successful treatment method is the Tri-Mix. There are three medications in the Tri-Mix, and each medication’s dosage strength is dependent on the specifications of how you would like to perform. The medications are as follows: (prostaglandin, papaverine, phentolamine).

22The drug companies have spent millions of dollars advertising their solutions to erectile dysfunction. They want you to believe that one pill fits all, when the truth is their solution fails over 50% of the time for the men who use it.

Our approach works immediately for 95% of men who try it, and we can formulate dosage catering to your needs.

The drugs our physicians use have been widely prescribed since the 1980s and are considered to be safe and effective. Our Revita physicians will provide a sample dose of the medication at the time of your first visit. They will provide the lowest effective dose in order to mitigate the chance of side effects or extended erections (known as a priapism), but to also successfully achieve an erection. Then, the doctor will work with you individually as to the specifications you would like your customized dose to meet, and prescribe that desired amount.

Erectile Dysfunction and Testosterone

Our Revita physicians can also test and treat you for testosterone deficiency. One of the most recognized effects of low testosterone is erectile dysfunction. If testosterone levels are low, the sexual centers in the brain that help men maintain erection are less activated and sexual desire is often diminished. Testosterone deficiency can cause other negative effects such as lack of energy, moodiness, and depression, all of which are risk factors for erectile dysfunction. Testosterone therapy can stimulate sexual desire and may be considered as a treatment for erectile dysfunction if you are deficient.

Erectile Dysfunction and Natural Supplements

Studies have shown that 92.5% of men taking natural supplements eliminated erectile dysfunction. Our physicians can recommend these types of supplements for treating ED. Our patients have experienced this type of success, as well as increased sexual desire and libido.

Our men’s health program at Revita Age Management is centered on a holistic approach, starting with a comprehensive evaluation of your needs and recommending a treatment plan with phenomenal results that our patients have already experienced.
